Chrysler Repair: Cirrus 95 limp-in:code 66, speeddometer, fuse block

Question
QUESTION: Hi Roland
1995 chrysler cirrus 2.5 engine.Thank you for solving
the distributor+coil problem I changed it out and it starts now. Still working on the limp-in problem at
no speeddometer or tach you suggested output senser
changed that did not help. The key codes are 12 66 55
reset this by removing the ground off of battery.Start
it back up and the 66 code is back in there. This might point to the tcm Not sure where that is located.I pulled
both plugs off of Module next to fuses pins 1 thru 40
and 41 thru 80 check for loose wires this is next to the air cleaner. The car works fine for a few miles then goes in the limp-in mode. transmission lites on dash indicate
it is in all gears.
         Thanks Dave

ANSWER: Hi Dave,
The tcm is on the opposite side of the fuse box from the pcm. The 66 code says that the ccd bus messages from the tcm are not being seen on the network. You could check pins 4 and 43 at the tcm plug to see that they are continuous to pins 14 and 6, respecively of the black plug at the bcm located at the underdash fuse block(back side thereof). Or easier would be to check that there is bias voltage of -2.5v on 4 and +2.5 on 43 pins of the tcm. Try flexing the harness to check for interminttent connections. If that all checks out, then suspect that the tcm is bad.

QUESTION: Thanks Roland
Hard to check pins 4 and 43 for voltage. Have tcm out
of engine .Anyway to check tcm when out of engine. Otherwise will plug back in what color are the wires for 4
and 43 . Does unit have to be started for voltage check.
         Thanks Dave

ANSWER: Hi Dave,
The pins of the plug itself should show the voltage, so just count the pins and measure them with the ignition in the 'run' position. The bcm provides this voltage to the plug so you should be able to see it without having it plugged in. The colors are white/dark green and violet/brown,

QUESTION: HI Roland
Took car test drive cannot get it to act up in limp_in mode
Pulled tcm plug off measured pin 4 2.5 volts pin 43 2.5 volts used a digital volt meter Did not see + Or minus
assumed both pins were plus reading. Will take another
test run to see if will act up. Then measure again.
         Thanks Dave

Answer
Hi Dave,
I now believe that the "+ -" dichotomy refers to the pulse polarity, not the bias voltage, so what you have measured is actually correct and does show that the ccd wires from the bcm to the tcm are alright. So, if no matter what you do you still get the 66 after erasing via the battery disconnect then it may be the time to look for a used tcm from a similar vehicle to yours. I hope that it would continue to 'not act up' if I understand you correctly.

The pinion factor,I believe, is the only thing that might be different depending upon the vehicle's differential raio and tire size. So wsit and see if the speedo seems accurate or not, and if necessary reprogram. Try and get a trans from a '95 Cirrus would be the best bet.
