Chrysler Repair: 1998 Chrysler Concorde 3.2l: rough idle, 1998 chrysler concorde, car beeps

Question
I saw that there was a question asked before about a hard starting Concorde, so let me ask it again (The previous person never got back to you on Engine size/type)

After about 30+ minutes of driving I have this intermittent problem of where the Car will not start. It will turn over and sometimes "Catch" however with a very rough idle that needs me to press on the accelerator to keep it from stalling. From there the idle will be somewhat choppy eventually smoothing out. I saw that you mentioned that the Exhaust gas recirculation valve might be ajar; Is this a "Do it yourself on the driveway" type of repair? The car has about 185k+ miles on it and aside from that it runs smooth.

Oh a bonus question; If I place my foot underneath the Parking brake and I lift it up [my foot] ever so slightly the fuel gauge goes to empty and the car beeps, but doesn't shut off? Any ideas? Could it be the Emergency Fuel shutoff sensor?

Answer
Hi Alex,
The egr might be the problem, but less likely than on earlier designs of the egr. It can be removed and checked out but requires removing the intake manifold plenum. My inclination would be to see whether you have any fault codes stored in the memory of the engine controller before getting into taking out the egr for inspection.
An Autozone parts store will often do the readout for free or an independent shop will charge around $40. Ask for the 4-digit code numbers, what they mean, what they recommend and for how much? Then let me know and we can check that against the powertrain diagnostic manual for that code.
On the brake pedal, I would take a look to see what the mechanism might be touching when you lift the pedal. The fuel shut off in an emergency is unrelated to the parking brake pedal. That function is performed by the autoshutdown relay which is opened if the engine stops rotating. The pedal arm may be shorting out a wire and causing the change when you lift it slightly.
