Chrysler Repair: 98 Grand Voyager Clicking Heat/AC Relay, control doors, grand voyager

Question
Our 1998 Grand Voyager has a rapidly clicking or clattering relay anytime the temperature control is changed. This goes on for several seconds when the temp control is changed. I've swapped the relay with one just like it. I've cleaned the back of the control panel. I've searched for the temperature control doors to see if they resist movement but apparently haven't dug deep enough into the dash. Any hints or directions are most appreciative.

Answer
Hi Don,
I saw your question in the 'question pool' earlier today and responded:
"Hi Don,
Can you describe which relay (location in the fuse box or do you mean under the hood box?) is clattering and continues to do so despite replacement? I don't see a specific relay in the heater system so please help me on that point. Then we'll go from there.

Perhaps you don't mean a relay, but rather an actuator of one of the doors on the AC distribution box? One possibility is that you just need to let the unit re-calibrate itself. You do that by turning the engine on. Then set the blower on high speed. Set the mode to "panel". Set temp control(s) to cold. Depress wash and rear wiper buttons simultaneously and hold for 5 seconds until all LED's flash. It will then go through a couple of minutes of activity and when it is all done if only the rear wipe LED is flashing the test is done and the unit 'passes'. Press the rear wipe button to exit.  There are other tests, but try this first to see if it solves anything. Let me know if something else is going when things stop.
