Chrysler Repair: 1991 Chrysler Imperial 3.3L /brake system, vacuum line, chrysler imperial

Question
On 1991 Chrysler Imperial 3.3L / A604 Trans. I need to know which brake system applys: Does the master cyclinder & booster come in one part, or are they separate. How can you tell by eye balling it? No manuel, Just a bunch of want to be's and Some good but old mechanics or too young. Brakes are hard to push. Speedometer lights are not working either.

Answer
Hi Beegee,
I'm familiar with the '89 Chrysler Corp-wide set up where the units are separate, although bolted together: master cylinder bolted on the front of power unit (which is at the fire wall proper). So unless they changed after that, you probably have the similar set up. They would be serviced separately as needed. You should be able to verify this description by visual inspection. To  get to the power unit, you first remove the master. One point to follow on the power unit removal: take off the vacuum hose from the check valve, and leave the check valve in place on the body of the unit.
Before assuming the hard action is a faulty unit, I would check the vacuum line from the power unit all the way back to the intake manifold to insure that the problem is not a cracked hose or loose fitting on the vacuum supply line. Another possibility, though less likely, is glazed pads or lining transfer on front rotors.
Tell me a little more about the lights: it sounds like a conventional analog cluster (non-electronic/digital), and are all the lights on the cluster not working? I have the manuals for '91 and can give you some ideas as to why, if you can describe exactly which lights are missing, or that the illumination loss is for the entire cluster.
