Chrysler Repair: no fuel & no spark: 93 Spirit, distributor shaft, dodge spirit

Question
what is the problem.  93 dodge spirit stopped running during driving.  I have no fuel at injector nor do I have a spark at the plug.  PLEASE HELP

Answer
Hi Ronnie,
Probably the sensor in the distributor which tells the engine computer that the engine is running and also when to fire the spark has failed (the other possibility is that the timing belt broke and the distributor shaft stopped turning). I would remove the distributor cap and make sure that the distributor shaft rotates when the engine is cranked. If it does, then use the ignition key to check for a fault code for the sensor. Turn the key "on-off-on-off-on and leave on" doing that in 5 seconds or less elapsed time. Then watch the check engine light (which remains 'on') to see if it begins to flash, pause, flash, etc.  Count the number of flashes before each pause. Then repeat the process to verify the flash counts. If the counts are 1,1,5,5 than means that you need to replace that Hall-effect pick-up sensor in the distributor. You simply remove the rotor and then remove the plate and the plug attached to the plate, and put a new one in its place. They cost around $40. All the above assumes you have the 2.5L 4 cyl engine. Let me know if you have the 3.0L 6 cyl engine as the codes may be different and so too is the sensor pack.
