Chrysler Repair: Electrical on 2000 Dodge Neon ES: brake code, obd ii, dodge neon

Question
I have a check engine light (code is for low voltage in brake pedal switch. Here is what the car is doing: AC compressor will not engage unless brake pedal is depressed. Cruise control will disengage when brake pedal is depressed, and re-engage when released. Is this only a brake pedal switch issue or would it be the ECU?

Answer
Hi Brian,
Would you have the OBD-II four-digit number for the code? I see an 0703 which is about the "brake switch sense circuit" which sounds consistent with your symptoms, but not so specific as to "low voltage" thereof. You could have the circuit open, grounded, or the ground wire open, so that circuit should be checked out before I would recommend doing anything with the ecu. Let me know if it is a different code number. I don't happen to have the wiring diagrams for the '00 Neon but might be able to figure out something relative to the attachment pins of the ecu for checking it out if you told me which engine that you have in the vehicle.
Have you checked to see if your brake lights work? Maybe the multipin plug at the brake switch is disconnected, so check that as well.
