Chrysler Repair: FUEL GAUGE doesnt work: 01 van, fuel level sensor, fuel gauge

Question
I have Chrysler T&c 2001 AND FUEL GAUGE stopped working. If fuel is full doesnt show, always on empty.

Please help, what do I do

Answer
Hi Mabel,
It is either the meter movement or some other aspect of the instrument cluster itself, or it is the fuel level sensor in the fuel tank. The cluster will do a self-diagnostic test which should tell you if the cluster is at fault. Here is how:
with the ignition switch off, simultaneously press and hold the trip and reset buttons; while holding buttons pressed in, turn the ignition to the "run/on" position. Then after the word "CODE" appears in the odometer window release the buttons.
Then watch the odometer window to change to read any 3-digit numbers or not. If 999 appears, then the first test is OK. If it shows a different three digit number tell me what it was.
Then it will show chec-0 and the dash lights should dim by themselves.
Then it should show chec-1 and all the gauges will start moving thru several positional steps. Watch the fuel gauge which should read E, 1/8,1/4 and then full. If it does, then the gauge itself is OK.  Either way it behaves, let me know and we'll go from there.
Finally when chec-2 shows the odometer digits will individually light up in sequence, and then that is the end of the self test. Once we have the results of the tests we will know what to do next.
