Chrysler Repair: instument cluster on 98 dodge - speedometer not working, cold solders, volt ohmmeter

Question
I read a posting that the first thing to check was fuses then wires, then cold solders.  Below is a portion of the posting.  However there are 2 sets of pins 5 and 6 for the instrument cluster.  Would you know which one I need to test regarding this problem.

Also Specifically how Would I go about setting up the tester cables. One in pin 5 and other other grounded is is something else.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Posted by Roldand,
check that you have voltage coming to the cluster from the fuses on the plug at the rear of the cluster on pin 6 (all the time) and pin 5 (when the ignition switch is in the run position). You would need a 12 volt test light or a volt-ohmmeter to check that. Finally check that the pin 8 is grounded by using the ohmmeter to check for 0 ohms from that point to a shiney spot of metal on the body structure nearby.

Answer
Hi Americo,
I can tell you about the speedometer question but can you tell me which model of Dodge you are working with?
If it is just the speedometer that is not working my recommendation would be that you test whether the output speed sensor on the transmission is working. If everything else on the cluster works, then there is probably nothing wrong with fuses, wires, or solder joints.
But please let me know the model, engine and type of transmission of your vehicle.
