Chrysler Repair: cooling fans wont stop: 98 van, chrysler web, roland roland

Question
The cooling fans won't shut off.

Answer
Hi Beth,
I suspect that the fan relay has stuck in the 'closed' position. Because you didn't mention the year or model I can't be very specific. But generally if you look under the hood there will be a rectangular box near the battery which when you remove its lid will have several relays and fuses inside of it. Look for a relay (small square box) which is labelled for the fan (or maybe two such relays) and pull it straight up out of its socket which will shut off the fan(s). If you have a van, the relay is generally not in that box but rather mounted on the frame rail (structural member) near the lower left corner of the radiator, in which case you would remove its plug once you have found it to accomplish the same shut down affect. You can find it by looking along the wires that go to the fan motors.
Use the "thank and rate" tab to get back to me if you need more info about your specific vehicle.

Thanks, its a 98 voyager

Then it is on that frame rail...and you may be in luck because that relay was such a problem that Chrysler did a recall of it for replacement. If yours hasn't already been recalled then you can get them to replace it for free. You can go to the Chrysler web site and possibly find out the details and whether you are eligible for the free replacement, or ask the dealer to look it up on their computer system.
