Chrysler Repair: Runs for a few seconds and dies:Sebring 97, door locks, computor

Question
QUESTION: 97 Chry Sebring.
Battery went bad. Replaced it and now it runs for a few seconds and dies. It has factory alarm. I am told this could be an Issue. How do I get past the alarm

ANSWER: Hi Joe,
You have to lock then unlock either the driver's door or the passenger's door as that is the routine to set/cancel the alarm (try both doors if one doesn't do it). If that doesn't do it, write back and let me know and there are ways to do the same thing at the body computer which is the brain of that system. Let me know if you have the sedan/coupe or the convertible.

QUESTION: The car is a Convertable.
The problem is, as I discovered,"If the Battery goes dead the computor looses its memory and the keys and the computor must be linked. (Cost is $110 to $130.

Lesson learned. DO NOT LET YOUR BATTERY GO DEAD FOR A LONG LENGTH OF TIME.

Have a Great Day

ANSWER: Hi Joe,
The sentry key immobilizer module (SKIM), if that is what you have, is in my belief not designed so as to fail if the battery fails. There are tests and procedures to perform to diagnose it to find out what is really wrong so unless you have fixed it already at a price I would try those. Let me know and I can type in some of these approaches, but verify for me that you have such a special key system.

QUESTION: The Keys do not have a chip in them. The dealer said that he thinks that they have to enable/disable by going into the computor. They are working it now. I towed it in today.
The guy I talked to said that it is the old style and should have a remote for the alarm/door locks. I reminded him that when I bought the car from his dealership that it had no remote. He thinks he can figure it out when he gets it in the shop. will know tomarrow.

Answer
Hi Joe,
I suspect that the wires from the arm/disarm switch of both doors is broken at the hinge. The driver wire goes to pin 19 of the 20-pin black plug at the body controller while the passenger goes to pin 20. You can put 12 volts thru two different size resistors attached to those two pins to replicate the switch action at those pins and thus disarm the system. Then never use the door key, or the power lock to secure the doors and only use the push buttons to lock the doors in the future. Thus you will never set the alarm again.
