Chrysler Repair: 1994 Chrysler LeBaron CT Convertible Cruise Control Switch Replacement, chrysler lebaron, 1994 chrysler lebaron

Question
QUESTION: Hi,

I recently bought a 1994 Chrysler LeBaron Convertible GT and the cruise control does not work. A friend of mine, who is a mechanic, looked at it and said it was the switch on the steering wheel. Unfortunately, I have not been able to get him to fix it since he is too busy. Is that something I can replace? It appears to be mounted to the steering wheel with just a couple of screws. Is it straight forward to purchase the part and replace it myself.

Thanks,

Jim

ANSWER: Hi Jim,
The switch is easy to remove, but my question would be is whether it is the switch or the flexible coupling between it and steering column, which is called the "clockspring". That latter part is the more likely one to fail. If you have an ohmmeter you can remove the switch and test it. If it passess and the friend is correct then I would suspect the clockspring which can also be tested. So let me know if you have an ohmmeter and I'll give you the pins and the tests.

QUESTION: Roland,

OK, per your instructions, the switch tested out good. How do I test the clockspring?

Jim

Answer
Hi Jim.
Pin 4 of the cruise switch atachment plug should attach to fuse 15 under the dash, pin 3 should go to pin 23 of the pcm on the left inner fender, and pin 1 goes to pin 3 of the stop lamp switch on the brake pedal under the dash. The wire colors are white/red, red/light green, and yellow/red, respectively. Check those for continuity.
