Chrysler Repair: 96 grand voyager: 2 trouble codes, 0600, 1698, obd2 scanner, socket pins

Question
my gauges (speedometer, gas, rpm etc.) went out last night.
oddly, i started the car up again this morning.. gauges are all in fine working
order now.

service engine light is on.. i pulled the codes from an obd2 scanner.

codes were P0600 & P1698.

i referenced them at autozone.. & they came up as ecm codes.

i dont believe it to be a faulty ecm.. the car runs fine, no idling, starts up right
away etc.

any help you can offer is greatly appreciated.

thank you roland finston.

Answer
Hi Linh,
While if you read the 0600 literally it says there is an internal communication failure in the ecm with the remedy to replace the ecm, the symptoms of gauges going out along with the 1698 (which speaks of communication failure between the trans controller and the powertrain controller) makes me wonder if it might not be a common problem we hear of relating to the failure of one of the solder joints between the plug's socket pins and circuit board for the instrument cluster. Other owners note that if they tap (rap) on the top of the dash that it self-corrects. So I would watch and wait to see which way this goes. If/when the driveabililty degrades then a replacement of the ecm would be warranted if the 0600 code is still present. You can erase the codes for now by disconnecting the battery for a few minutes or via a scanner if you have one.
