Chrysler Repair: door ajar switch: 99 LH body, 1999 chrysler lhs, chrysler lhs

Question
I have a 1999 Chrysler LHS. The interior lights randomly come on and off while driving and the alarm system may go off while it is outside. I have read some of your forums on the door switch and adjusting the door.  Is the switch part of the latching mechanism on this car?  I don't see any push buttons on the door or jambs. Thanks

Answer
Hi Dave,
The door switch might be involved OR the door latch may just be misadjusted so as to not secure the door tightly against the door frame opening. I would suspect the latter. Try pushing outward on each door from inside the car to see which one causes the interior lights to come on. That is the door that is probably not closed tightly enough. I am not sure if the latch mechanism in the door or the striker plate in the frame is adjustable, but one or the other is. Loosen the screws and try to push the striker in-board/the latch mechanism out-board, either of which will secure the door more tightly and likely solve the problem. The ajar switches appear to be part of the lock motors so they would be inside the door.
