Chrysler Repair: 1995 Cirrus wont start, no tach, crank sensor, coolant temp

Question
QUESTION: 95 Cirrus V6 with 131000 mls. Won't start. Tach does not work. prior codes are 12,42,11,17,55. Since that time, I have checked all the fuses, replaced the battery, replaced the coolant temp sensor, oxygen sensor, fuel pump relay, tcm relay, and put in a new starter, afterwhich, I only get a 12,42,55, and tach still does not work. I tried to reset the tach by pressing the reset button and turning on the engine, all the indicators moved except the tach. I have checked all the connections to the battery and all the other connectors I could find, everything seems okay.  I was curious about whether the tach is directly wired to the battery?  If so, could that cause a short circut in the autoshutdown for code 42?  How can I repair or replace the tach if reset doesn't work? What should I try next.  Thanks in advance Kevin.  I have been reading your responses to others for the past week, and I have been able to illiminate two of the problem codes. Please help me finish this so I can give my daughter the car before she tears mine up.

ANSWER: Hi Kevin,
The tach is operated from pulsing by the crank sensor. The crank sensor is also implicated via the 11 code. So I would try to test that or just replace it. You could by-pass the ASD by removing it and jumping from the in board pin (97) to the out board pin (89) (which will likely cause the fuel pump to run if the ignition is turned on) but in any case that would give you a chance to try and run it without the ASD in play. But don't leave it that way as it will run down the battery and is unsafe for regular operation. If it starts and runs then you know the crank sensor is OK. If not, then that would increase the suspicion of the crank sensor. If you want to test the crank sensor let me know.

QUESTION: Replaced the crank sensor, no change.  Still wining and occational tick when first attempting to start, whinning sound continue when key is in on position.  What can I try next?

Answer
Hi Kevin,
Did you try disconnecting the battery for a few minutes to erase the fault codes, then try restarting it to see what the current codes are? Let me know what codes you get. I can't ID a "whining"; could you localize it? Are you getting spark when cranking? Did you try by-passing the ASD?
