Question
Hello, ive been having problems with my 93'chrysler,imperial and i hope u can help me. Well my problems are that my car when driving it turns off and iam able to turn it back on with no problem it does this every so often i have no idea on where to start looking to fix.

Answer
Hi Rosco,
There are two possibilities: a bad ignition switch or a bad engine position sensor needed for timing the spark and fuel. If the engine will restart almost instantly then I would suggest that ignition switch has a section with intermittent contacts. If on the other hand the you have to wait for a few minutes before it will start again then I suspect that one of the solid state sensors is failing and then recovering as it cools down.
If the latter is the behavior then there would be a fault code stored in the engine controller memory that would point to the source of the problem. Then I would try to get any fault codes from the engine computer. "On-off-on-off-on and leave on" with the ignition switch, doing that in 5 seconds or less elapsed time. Then watch the check engine light to see it begin to flash, pause, flash, etc. Count the number of flashes before each pause. Then repeat to assure as accurate count of the flashes. Then group the counts in pairs in the order they appeared to form the 2-digit fault codes. Then write back with the codes and we'll go from there, or go to www.allpar.com/fix/codes.html for a code listing that may say if there is something wrong in the engine spark or fuel systems. If you write back with a code, tell me which engine you have and also what is the letter in the 5th position of the V.I.N.
