Chrysler Repair: Plymouth Voyager Code P0740, P0700, plymouth grand voyager, plymouth voyager

Question
I have  a 97 Plymouth Grand Voyager with 131064 miles. This has failed the emission test, Trouble Code: P0740 and P0700, the dash board show red light indicating "service engine soon" . Could anyone tell me what this code means and how to get it fixed.
I want to get my vehicle pass the emission test.

Answer
Hi Paul,
The 700 reports the presence of a transmission fault code. the 740 says specifically that the clutch that locks up the input and output turbines of the torque converter is apparently not doing its job to perfection. This is a energy conserving feature that goes into effect above 45 mph. It may be simply electical activation issue or it could be a true slipping clutch. I would take it to a reputable independent transmission shop and have them check out which possibility is the cause.
