Chrysler Repair: digital instrument cluster: 92 T&C, digital instrument cluster, check gauge

Question
QUESTION: The check gauge light stays on, even if the motor is shut off. The spedometer reads 100km's all the time, the tack lines are high when idling. Could it be the panel or the body computer? Thank you in advance.

ANSWER: Hi Paul,
I need to know the year and model of your vehicle to give you specific advice. Roland

QUESTION: my van is a 1992 crysler town and country.

ANSWER: Hi Paul,
OK, now do a self-test of the cluster function:
Press and hold simultaneously "trip" and "trip reset" buttons
While holding them, turn the ignition key to the "run" position
Release the buttons.
If "chec" appears in the odometer window of the cluster, then press the "us/met" button and see if "code" appears on the odometer display followed by a number(s)
Write back and tell me what those numbers are.
If nothing or something other than "chec" is displayed on the odometer, write back and tell me what appeared.

QUESTION: The code I got was 8 and 9, and on the bottom right side was #999. Also after I did the test the van just is able to start and shuts off right afterward, never happened until after the test-thank you.

Answer
Hi Paul,
The appearance of the numbers 8 and 9 in the odometer window, as far as I can tell, means probably that you didn't exactly simultaneously press the trip and trip reset buttons. This is tricky, you have to have two fingers on the buttons, probably on the same hand, and push them and hold in precisely, then turn the key to run, then release them simultaneously. So try that again. The possibilities are what you already got, nothing at all displayed, "chec" displayed, or something weird displayed. If you either get chec or weird, then press the us/met button, and watch to see if all displays illuminate for 6 seconds, followed by a 5 in the speedometer display. Let me know.
On the engine dieing after 3 seconds, that sounds to me like a theft system false alarm kind of behavior, though I wonder whether you have that system installed? In any case, try to lock, then unlock the driver door using the door key, then see if it will start and run. If not, try the same thing on the passenger door side. Then let me know if that worked or not.
