Chrysler Repair: 2005 Dodge Caravan egr problem, 2005 dodge caravan, dodge caravan

Question
I have a 2005 Dodge Caravan 3.3 engine, 120,00 MILES, the engine light was on and the engine was sputtering, all answers pointed to the egr valve, since it was easy to get to I changed it myself, after one day of running smooth , maybe 25 miles, it started sputtering again and the engine light came back on. I check my bolts and all were tight, I checked and cleaned the electrical connector. The only thing I didn't change was the round rubber gasket on the end of the tube that attaches to the top of the engine. Could that be the problem now? Or should I check for something else. I did blow through the tube and it seemed ok. Thanks for your time.

Answer
Hi Norm,
If by the "top of the engine" you mean the intake manifold, then yes a vacuum leak at that point can cause a leaning out of the mixture. So that would be a reasonable thing to change. You also might want to get a free fault code readout at an Autozone parts store to see if the code is still pointing toward the egr valve or something else.
