Chrysler Repair: 1993 plymouth acclaim electrical, radio wiring harness, cigar lighter

Question

A friend recently gave me his 1993 Plymouth acclaim and installed a stereo in it but he basically just cut a bunch of wires and somehow installed the stereo in a way that I don't  understand. He did a very messy and reckless job. Now the dashboard lights don't come on and the cigarette lighter won't work plus I don't now which cords are for the front speakers...I think he cut those very short or something.  How can I at least get the dashboard lights to work again?

Answer
Hi Steve,
The cigar lighter is supplied by fuse 15 so take a look at that one. It is not related to the radio so I doubt that was blown by the friend.
The illumination for the cluster and the other control lamps on the dash is provided by fuse 5, on orange wires. That wire is also in the radio wiring harness so maybe he blew that fuse when hooking up the radio. See what that orange wire at the radio is attached to, he might have grounded it which of course would blow the fuse. There is another illumination (variable) wire for the radio, yellow/black, which is powered by fuse 14 so check that and also see what it is connected to at the new radio. You will have to have a manual for the radio to figure out what was done wrong.
The left front door speaker wires are dark green and brown/red, and the right is violet and dark blue/red as seem at the radio harness plugs. See what those wires got hooked up to, or maybe one or more weren't hooked up at all.
