Chrysler Repair: electrical on 1989 LeBaron, oxygen sensors, inner fender

Question
I have a 1989 2.5 turbo that is getting no fire to the coil. I can run a jumper to the positive side of the coil from the battery and it runs fine albeit with a miss. Which relay is out? Thanks

Answer
Hi Randy,
The power to the coil is supposed to come from the Autoshutdown relay which is the forwardmost one on the left side inner fender. It should close when the signal from the sensor in the distributor gets thru to the engine controller telling it that the engine is running and so it is ok to provide spark, fuel pump and heated oxygen sensors. Check that the red wire at the relay has 12V, then turn on the ignition switch and listen for the click of the relay and you should get 12V on the dark green/black wire that should last for about 1 second and then the relay opens unless you then try the starter and get the engine turning over and the relay will close again and stay closed as long as the engine is running.
It could be the relay isn't closing or the points inside are oxidized.
