Chrysler Repair: 1998 3.3L engine: oil pressure warning chimes at idle, engine oil pressure, oil pressure sender

Question
The van has a 3.3 engine witn 150K miles. Just recently the low oil light came on with the dinging bell while at idle or low engine speeds. How do I trouble shoot this and where do I find the bell and sensor. The engine doesn't have any knocking sounds to suggest low pressure and I expect sensor problems. Is there a place to put a oil pressure test guage?
Thanks Rick

Answer
Hi Rick,
The oil pressure sender is located just forward of the oil filter. Remove the wire connector and then the sender itself. You can then screw a pressure gauge in the hole.
The pressure should be at least 5 psi at idle with the engine warmed up, and 30 to 80 psi at 3,000 rpm.
The chime is probably a part of the body control module which is located on the rear side of the fuse block under the dash.
If you find the pressure to be marginally low, you could raise the weight of oil that you use one step.
