Chrysler Repair: 99 sebring convertible: winshield washer not working, electronic circuit board, fuse box

Question
QUESTION: My fluid washer won't spray. I have applied power to the pump and it sprays. The multi switch operates the wipers in all positions. Is there a fuse or relay that operates the pump? It's a convertible. Thanks

ANSWER: The fuse that operates the washer pump also operates the wiper motor. The actual control of the power to the washer motor is via the body control module which is a computer that covers many different electrical systems of the car.
The check that you need to make is at the washer pump itself. The brown/dark blue wire of the plug should show 12 volts when you ask for the washer. If not, then either the switch internal to the wiper switch section of the multifunction switch is inoperative (you might remove it and spray the interior with electronic circuit board cleaner in an attempt to clean the contacts) or wire from that switch to the body module is "open" (brown/dark blue from pin 1 of the black plug to pin 15 of the white plug at the body module which is on the back side of the fuse box under the dash) or the body control module is faulty for this function. One final possibility is that the ground
wire from the plug at the motor is "open" or loose at its attachment point at the right strut tower. I suspect it is the internal contact of the switch inside the multifunction switch, but check out all the possibilities. And make sure the black wire is actually grounded.

PS Thanks for the complete description of what is the current status of the system.

QUESTION: I have continuity between the black wire and the strut. The multi-switch was cleaned and does function the wipers in both the washer mode and the misting mode. I get about 200 mV between the black and dark blue wire at the washer connector when the washer switch is activated.

ANSWER: Hi Linus,
There is evidentally some response, so I would check to see if pin 15 at the the body control plug white plug is getting 12V from the washer request action, and if not then the points in the multifunction switch are corroded, or the wire from pin 1 of the black plug of the multifunction is shorting on the way to pin 15. If that turns out OK, then either the wire from 10 of the black plug at the body control to the washer motor is partially shorted to ground or the body control module is faulty in this particular function. Unfortunately you can't unplug the black plug to check the voltage, but you could unplug the plug and measure between 10 on the plug and ground (with the motor plug unplugged) to see if it is infinite ohms. If so, then the body controller is failing to put out the 12V when requested and apparently is faulty. But check fuses 5,9, and 11 in the junction box which are the power supply fuses to the body controller.

QUESTION: I checked fuses 5.9.and 11 and all are good. I bought a used multi-switch and the washer still doesn't work. I also noticed that the rear window defroster doesn't heat up. I can hear the relay "click" but the window didn't clear. Can the two systems be connected? Any other help would be great.
Thanks,
Linus

Answer
Hi Linus,
The rear defogger uses fuse 16 in the PDC (which also powers the mirrors and the LED light for the defogger on the control panel). If the light goes on and the relay clicks, then either the points in the relay are bad or the wire connections to and thru the window would be checked for possible cause. No relationship to the washer.
Hqve you done the other checks that I suggested in my last reply? Something else (wiring short?) is preventing the full power from reaching the motor.
