Chrysler Repair: 2001 2.7 Sebring: missing at idle, cam shaft position sensor, 4 digit numbers

Question
Ok Ill start with i'm on  my second engine, so far so good.  Though I probably should have gone with the jasper with larger oil uptake..

OK I was having the intermitant flickers of oil light at idle as well..

went and had oil changed and filter.

Of course as i drive it ( or it gets warmer) the engine wants to miss or chug at idle.  no lights but eventually e4ngine light comes on...oh Im on my second TCM as well.

I dont think its missing ie bad plug or loose belt because it doesnt happen all the time...

could it be a cam shaft position sensor?  I thought belts at first because it happened more when i turned AC on, and did it while driving...

now it seems to be at stops and it does it in neutral or drive with brake applied....

what are your thoughts??????

Answer
Hi Lance,
Because the engine light has come on at some point in the recent past there is a good chance that the engine control module has a fault code stored in its memory. I am not sure whether you can get a readout with the ignition key:"on-off-on-off-on and leave on" doing that in 5 seconds or less, then watch for any 4-digit numbers to appear in the odometer window at the dash. If not, then you can get a readout with a meter at Autozone, usually for free. Get the numbers, what their names are, what they say should be done, and for how much. Then write back and we'll compare to the shop manual. I would guess at a sticking ajar egr or a loose clamp on the vacuum line to the power assist can of the brake system, rather than a spark timing sensor. But a code readout is the way to get an answer directly.
