Chrysler Repair: 98 Stratus - Check engine light and door chime, striker plate, independent shop

The check engine light is on and the open door chime will cut in and out while driving even though doors are closed.When I open the doors the dome light will not come on but if I jostle the buttons(switches)in the door frame it will light up.It is driving me insane!Help!

Hi George,
You need to have the engine controller memory read out for fault codes to diagnose what is the problem. If there is an Autozone parts store near you they will often do that for free, or go to an independent shop for $40 or less. Get the specific 4-digit code numbers, ask what they mean, what they recommend, and how much. Then write back and we can compare that to what the shop manuals say to do before opting for the repair.
On the door chime, one of your door latches needs to be adjusted to secure the door more tightly. With the engine running and all the doors closed try pushing from the inside on each door to see which one sets off the alarm. Then adjust the striker plate inboard a bit so it latches the door tightly against the door frame.
