Chrysler Repair: Passenger Window on Chrysler Concord, chrysler concord, jumper wires

Question
The power window on my  1999 Chrysler Concord will not go up.  Is there a release to allow me to put it back up manually?

Thank you,
Greg

Answer
Hi Greg,
Unfortunately the lift mechanism is a sector gear that is linked to the window motor mechanically so you can't move it without either getting the motor to work again or by removing the motor. You have to be careful if you do the latter (after removing the door panel) because when you remove the motor the force of gravity will allow the window to drop to lowest position unless you clamp the sector gear. Such a drop could catch your fingers in the gear or break the glass.
There are several steps to remove the panel to gain access to the motor and gear and control switch. I can xerox copy and mail this to you if you like. You might want to check the electrical function of the motor by connecting a set of jumper wires to the wires at the passenger side switch that go directly to the motor. I am not sure if that switch can be lifted out of the trim panel without removing the panel, but if gently prying on the edge does release it you could jump from the battery to the violet and to the brown wires on that switch which will apply power to turn the motor to make the window go up or down depending upon the polarity of the jumpers. If that shows the motor to be ok then I would check the switch itself and possibly spray some electrical contact cleaner inside the switch to correct poor contacts inside of it. Otherwise, dismantling the door panel and the motor will be necessary.
