Chrysler Repair: 2000 T&C A/C losing its cold, thornwood drive, chrysler town

Question
2000 Chrysler Town & Country LX    A/C is not as cold as it used to be.  Until this year, you hop in the van on a hot Georgia day and just sitting there on an idle and A/C on max, it would cool you down in a flash.  This year the air coming out of the vents is just cool on an idle and it only gets cold at highway speeds.  Something that has started in the last month; when I turn off the engine, there is a prominent gurgling/hissing from under the glove box, probably the area of the condenser coil.

My first thought was that it's low on refrigerant, grab my gauge and a new can.  Hooked it up and the gauge showed right at the max of normal operating mode.  I allowed it to fill a little refrigerant just to observe and the gauge responded by shifting a little over the max line of normal operating mode.

I'm looking forward to your diagnosis!

Roland, you mentioned some built in self diagnostics and I would be interested in getting a copy.

Answer
Hi Rick,
The pressure that is 'normal' is dependent upon the temperature of the line, so unless that was also taken into account I would not conclude that you have sufficient refrigerant.
There are about 24 pages in my '98 manual (including a lot of diagnostics) about the system which would be useful for you now or in the future. If you would like them please send me 8 41-cent stamps and your postal mailing address. I will copy and mail them to you. Then if you need to do some servicing of the unit there are 16 more pages, but you can let me know that and I'll copy the rest.
