Chrysler Repair: 96 Chrysler Sebring, Not Starting, solenoid switch, chrysler sebring

Question
Hi,
I have a 2.5L V6 Engine. I had a new battery installed. The car started up fine but after a couple of days the car wouldn't start up. I tried jump starting the car and it still wouldn't start up. All I heard was the click from the solenoid. The car sat for a couple of days. I tried to start it up an it started up without any hesitation. I drove it all weekend. As I was about to start it up I noticed that there was a slight delay(about 2 sec)but it started. I turned it off and tried to start the car up again but it would start. I let it sit for a day and the car started up again. Do you have any suggestions? Any and all help would be appreciated.

Answer
Hi John,
If you consistently hear the loud click from the solenoid on the starter motor, and you have a fully charged battery, then it either has to be a poor +cable connection at the battery or at the solenoid of the heavy red wire OR the starter motor is beginning to have some dead spots on its commutator or worn brushes. So check the connection of the power red wire (but disconnect the -post first for avoiding a short to ground) at the battery and at the solenoid, and then I believe that if it continues to be flaky even though the solenoid is clicking then you will need to remove the starter motor and have the solenoid and the motor tested for rebuilding. The solenoid switch internal contacts could be pitted badly or as I said above the motor brushes/commutator may be worn.
If you neither get the solenoid or a click from the starter relay located in the power distribution center, then you have a different set of possibilities: the ignition switch, the park/neutral switch, the relay as possible causes. But you implied that you always heard the solenoid.
