Chrysler Repair: Power windows, 87 LeBaron GTS, lebaron gts, 1987 chrysler lebaron

Question
QUESTION: MY SON JUST BOUGHT A PRETTY NICE 1987 CHRYSLER LEBARON.  THE WINDOW ON THE DRIVER SIDE WENT DOWN AND WON'T COME UP.  YOU CAN HEAR IT HUMING OR WORKING IT SEEMS IS THE MOTOR SHOT OR HAS IT SLIPPED OFF THE GUIDE.  HOW CAN I TELL AND I HEAR I HAVE TO BE VERY CAREFUL ON REPLACING A MOTOR , ALSO WHERE IS THE FUSE BOX AT

ANSWER: Hi Vonna,
I don't know what you will find when you remove the inner door panel to access the motor and mechanism. I have the '87 and '89 manuals and can xerox the pages about the power window systems. The '89 manual is more specific that the '87 so that would probably be more useful to you.
I can xerox copy and postal mail you the pages that cover the power window repair. It costs me 10 cents per side plus the postage, but you can pay me with unused postage stamps after you receive them. Just use the "thank and rate" tab to tell me a postal mailing address. Also, tell me if you have the coupe or convertible body type (designated J-21 and J-27 respectively), or the Lebaron GTS sedan (H). It appears that the mechanism is a conventional sector gear lift rather than a flexible drive cable. The fuse box is under the dash on the driver's side of the car.

QUESTION: Ok I took panel off and the motor ran fine.  I had to lift the window up and then I could get all the way up the motor let it come down fine at first and then a little fast it wouldn't let it go up.  I didn't keep trying the motor didn't want to wear it out.  Can it just be the gear and is it very hard to get off and back on.  I can't believe they dont have a panel you can remove to get your hand in.  This looks like a bit of a challege.  This is a sedan.  Thanks for any help

Answer
Hi Vonna,
If this is a GTS four door sedan then you have a flex drive type of window lift. Either the flex drive or the motor gear is damaged and will need to be replaced. I can send you the pages on how to do that and then you can get an idea of what you need to do. So let me know a postal mailing address via the "thank and rate" tab. I will also send the page from the '88 manual that shows the available parts. Then you can decide to either get the parts from a dealer if available of from a wrecking yard pull-it- yourself type.
