Chrysler Repair: battery discharging over a few days, dodge ram 1500, power door locks

Question
2001 dodge ram 1500, if my truck sits for a few days without starting it the battery is dead, i hiiked a 12volt tester between the neg. post and the neg. cable. the test light is very bright wich means there is a draw on the battery. but when i pull the fuses 1 by 1 the only time the light goes off is when i pull the fuse labled I.O.D. what is that fuse for and could that be the problem and how do i fix it??????

Answer
Hi Jason,
That is the Ignition Off Draw fuse and it provides power for all the lights (internal and external), the memory function of the powertrain controller/transmission controller, the power door locks, and everything that does not require the ignition switch to be in the run position to work. I am not sure whether there are two separate fuse areas in a ram 1500 vehicle but if you have been looking under the hood, then try looking under the dash for another set of fuses, some of which may be powered by the IOD fuse. Then you can localize the issue to that particular sub-circuit. It is not surprising that the IOD is carrying the current that would discharge the battery as that is the only one in play when you are shut down. Now you need to find some secondary fuses or an internal light that is stuck 'on'. I don't have the wiring diagrams for trucks, but you may be able to find one on line.
