Chrysler Repair: 99 2.5L V-6, no spark, timing pulses, odometer reading

Question
i have a 2.5 litre that has no spark to the plugs any ideas on what it could be thanks alot

Answer
Hi Rick,
I would suspect that one of the sensors (cam or crank) that time the ignition has failed, but it could also be the spark coil that is built in to the distributor, or even just the distributor cap (which you can check, it should read 5000 ohms between the center button and the coil tower). More likely a sensor, however. If you have a voltmeter you can measure for the presence of timing pulses from both sensors. The crank sensor is located on the seam between the engine and the transmission and you would pierce the insulation to reach the conductor with a fine pin, then attach the meter lead. The wires in question are gray/black and black/light blue. You would turn the ignition to 'run' then crank the engine over by hand via the bolt on the crankhaft pulley. Observe for the voltage to pulse between 5V and 0.3V 12 times for each full rotation of the crank. On the cam, the wires in question are at the distributor:tan/yellow and black/light blue and I believe the it pulses once per 2 revolutions of the crank. Other than getting a readout of the fault codes stored in the controller, this would be the best way to test the sensors. You could try turning the ignition key "on-off-on-off-on and leave on" doing that in 5 seconds or less. Then see if the odometer reading changes from mileage to a four digit fault code. The crank sensor is 0320 and the cam is 0340 if either is at fault.
Let me know what you learn.
