Chrysler Repair: 2001 Voyager 2.5 crd alarm fault, striker plate, step tests

Question
Hi,
I have a problem with my factory alarm. I lock the doors and when armed it sounds for about 30 seconds short pause and then sounds again repeatedly, the key fob or door lock does not stop siren until it completes the 30 second cycle. No hazard lights flash as they would in normal alarm sounding.
Is there a diagnostic onboard procedure I could follow?
I would greatly appreciate any help.
Thanks

Answer
Hi John,
I don't know for certain what would cause this behavior but I would begin by making sure that all the doors are latching tightly so that an alarm glitch is not generated by an ajar door sensor, falsely. You can move the striker plate inboard on any door that seems loose. Check all doors and the lift gate and the hood ajar sensor switch too.
The only on-board diagnostic procedure involves using the Chrysler diagnostic readout box (DRB III). I have the 'body diagnostic procedure' manual for 1998 and it has about 20 pages of step-by-step tests, but it involves the DRB and possibly getting a fault code/ error indication readout as to the specific issue with the alarm system to focus your efforts. So you might want to get a readout of the body controller specifically directed at the alarm system from a dealer and then we can see if that can be related to the manual that I have as to what would be the appropriate next tests/remediations. I don't know how much they would charge for that but maybe you could get a contingency that the cost of the readout might be applied to an overall repair of the VTS if you have to turn the balance of the job over to them.
So those are my best suggestions at this point.
Roland
