Chrysler Repair: 99 intrepid cranks but wont start, powertrain control module, crank sensor

Question
Hi Roland
i asked you about ASD relay on 99 intrepid. i rechecked my coils within the one second time period, and also while cranking. i do have 12 volts power, but i dont have trigger to the coils. i have hooked up my hand-held scanner and i still dont get any codes. check engine light doesnt come on. cam and crank sensor test out ok. and ideas.
Thanks
Ernie

Answer
Hi Ernie,
Have you checked for trigger pulsing on the wires that go to the coils? There should be pulsing on pins 1,2,3,4,11,21 on the powertrain control module while you are cranking (probably between 0 and 12V, or between ground and "floating", I'm not sure which) so maybe probe one of those wires and see if you can notice any kind of coil driver action. If there is 12V on the dark green/light green wire at each coil on plug unit, and you see a driver signal, but still no spark, then I would check the two capacitors (one for each bank of coil on plugs).
But given you have sensor outputs, the next logical step would be to see if you have actual coil driver signals. If not, then that would implicate the powertrain controller or the wiring thereto as the problem.
The only ignition related tests for no spark with no codes is to check the PCM ground (pin 10, 47 and 50) and for 12V ignition-switched on pin 20, and fused 12V on pin 46 to be present all the time.
When you say you get no spark, are you grounding the plug's threads?
Good luck and let me know, please.
Roland
