Question
i am replacing the timing belt on my 96 sebring conv. the upper right timing belt cover is jammed between the cam pulley and the power steering pump bracket. what is the easiest way to get the cover off. if the bracket has to be removed how do i gain easy access to the bolts for it ?

Answer
Hi Billy,
I assume that you have the 2.5L V-6 engine. The '98 manual gives these steps:
remove the right inner splash shield
remove the accessory drive belts
remove the right engine mount*
remove the crankshaft damper
remove the right engine mount bracket (three bolts on the front of the engine) you may need to remove the lower timing belt cover to do this
remove the timing belt covers in this order:
upper left, lower cover, upper right.
The manual doesn't say anything about having to deal with the power steering pump bracket, so see whether that might not be an issue if you followed the above instructions. Otherwise, I can give you the instructions for removing that. I can Xerox and postal mail you these instructions alond with some drawings that may help. Let me know a postal mail address if you want them.
