Chrysler Repair: A/C not blowing cool air in 97 sebring, chrysler sebring convertible, 1997 chrysler sebring convertible

Question
Hi, Roland.  I have a 1997 Chrysler Sebring Convertible.  The A/C is blowing air correctly at the right speeds.  The only problem is that it is not blowing COLD air.  Could this be a problem with the compressor?  I noticed you mentioned a fuse 21 earlier.  If this fuse needs to be checked, where is that located under the dash?  Thanks for all your help.

Answer
Hi Angela,
The fuses I believe to be involved with the compressor operation are 9 and 17 (10 amp and 40 amp, respectively) in the power distribution center which is the middle one of three under the hood just behind the radiator.
If the compressor doesn't cycle on when you ask for cooling (look under the hood for the comressor near the front of the engine while a helper pushes the button for AC and see if you notice/hear a change in the operation of the compressor which is the unit that is belt driven, lower down on the side that is closer to the front of the car). If it isn't actuated and those fuses are OK, then I suspect that you have just run low on refrigerant so you need to get that checked and if necessary recharged at an radiator/air conditioner shop. The compressor has a safety pressure switch which prevents it from operating unless you have sufficient refrigerant in the system.
