Chrysler Repair: heater/air conditioning blower only operates on high, blower motor resistor, 2004 chrysler sebring

Question
Have 2004 Chrysler Sebring the blower fan only works on high. What should I look at if anything to fix the problem. Thanks Matt

Answer
Hi Matt,
That behavior is syptomatic of a partially burned out 'blower motor resistor block'. That is located at the lower right side of the heater/ac unit under the dash. If you remove the lower edge of the right side of the dash for better access to see underneath, if you then turn on the blower you can locate the round housing for the blower and its motor. There are two wires on the motor housing and one of them runs nearby to a 5-wire plug located on the air duct housing next to the blower motor. Remove the plug, then remove the two screws that hold the object that the plug was attached to, and pull out from the duct that rectangular-shaped object, which is the base plate for the resistor block. You can get a replacement resistor block for around $25 from a dealer. Installation is the reverse of removal. Take a look at the resistors to make sure that the coils don't touch one another and insert it into the duct carefully. That should get you back the other blower speeds.
