Chrysler Repair: Check engine light: how to reset?, cable clamp, chrysler 300m

Question
How do I reset a check engine light on a 1999 Chrysler 300M?

Answer
Hi Blake,
The most common way is to disconnect the battery - post cable clamp for 5 minutes which clears the memory but also will leave a code for "battery supply to memory lost recently" in the memory; but it too will go away after a while. That is the only way to do it if you don't have a code reader that can communicate with the controller and its memory. Most codes will self-erase in 50-100 key on-off cycles once the cause that set the code is removed. You also will likely loose the radio presets by disconnecting the battery. So if the light isn't "on" all the time you might just leave the memory alone.
