Chrysler Repair: 95 Chrysler Cirrus 2.5 V-6, throttle position sensor, chrysler cirrus

Question
Wil,
I'm working on a Cirrus with a 2.5 V-6.  It had an overheating problem which was due to the metal pipe for the heater core.  The car never got hot enough to blow the head gasket.  I pulled off the intake and distributor to get to the pipe.  I got it back together and it won't start.  I checked fire,  firing order,  and compression.  It should run.  I pulled codes 12 (battery been disconnected)  23 ( air intake temp sensor) and 24 (throttle position sensor)  All these are hooked up.  I didn't reset the codes to try to start it though.  Seems like it should still start even with the codes.  Tried to start it on starting fluid and it blew a flame/sneeze out the intake.  I checked and rechecked plug wires,  the distributor only fits one way,  and plug wires is marked on distributor.  Seems unlikely,  but could it have jumped timing?  It acts like it wants to start while cranking but won't do it.  I smell gas out the back.  I don't know what else to check.  Even checked the crank sensor under the distributor in the bell housing.  Everything seems like it's OK.  Any ideas?

Thanks,  Ray

Answer
If i'm not mistaken you can put that distributor in 2 ways.I could be wrong thou.Perhaps you should check the timing belt.It sounds like its off,if you're popping through the t body.Did you check the inside of the dist. for wetness. That could make a plug fire at the wrong time.I put a set off tires on a car once.Went to start it and jumped the timing chain. So anything is possible
