Chrysler Repair: 94 Voyager: Crankshaft oil seal servicing, 3.3L engine, plymoth voyager, oil seals

Question
How hard is it to change the Front & rear main oil seals
on a 94 plymoth voyager 3.3 V6, or about how much would it
cost to have it done at a shop.

Answer
Hi Jesse,
I haven't done either but looking at the shop manual it appears to be a pretty lengthy job. The front seal is part of the oil pump and you have to remove the front pulley, and the timing chain to get to it. It is a total of about 18 steps in each direction. The rear seal of course requires separating the trans from the engine. That is about a 20 step procedure in each direction.  The seal is lifted out gently with a screwdriver, and there is one tool you need to install the new one. I can't tell you the costs because I don't have a time manual. But my inclination would be to let it leak. The cost of doing this by itself is way too high compared to the oil loss. Maybe sometime in the future when you need trans work or engine overhaul would be the time to do the seals.
