Chrysler Repair: 1992 Chrysler lebaron convertible flunked emissions, chrysler lebaron, 1992 chrysler lebaron

Question
Hi, My car runs great. Went to have it inspected passed for everthing except emissions. Excessive smoke from the exaust which looks white but not thick while idiling. Does not smell like anti freeze at all,but does have a strong ordor as though it has an excessive amount of fumes like it might be gas related , carbon maybe or something like that since its a strong odor and your clothing stinks of it when you stand back there to check it. I did have a low anti freeze level, but since I topped it off it has'nt leaked out for over a week and level seems to be the same. Nothing in the oil or anti freeze that would indicate head gasket. Car does'nt even run hot, even at an idle. I'm stumped. Could it be any components causing this or high carbon levels, fuel injectors maybe and I don't think these were made with egr valve am I correct in saying this or not correct. Confusing part is that the car runs like a top. I would appreciate your help. God Bless my friend and have a great Day! Sincerely, Frank

Answer
3 liter engines have a problem with valve guides when they get high miles. The guide drops down and allows oil to get in the cylinder and gives that awful smell.Dealerships have a special tool we use to repair this.Thing is though we haven't used them in a long time so a lot guys may no longer have them. The only other repair is to replace the heads.Big money! They also have a problem with head gaskets too.I don't what state you are in but do they have an exempt rule if the cost to repair is excessive? And may the Lord be with you aswell!
