Chrysler Repair: frontend clucking noise 1999 Concorde, inner tie rod, hammer and screw

Hi Wil Thanks for the quick response. I know the outer tie rod end is connected to the steering knuckle. Can't I push the locking tabs back where the inner tie rod connects to the steering assembly,remove the bolt and count the number of turns to remove the inner tie rod end to keep the toe correct when I put it back together.  Thanks Barry

I have a noise in the front end when I turn the wheel usually when the car is not moving or a slow moving turn. Alldata which I subscribe to has a TSB #010323 addressing this problem. The problem is a worn bushing on the inner tie rod to the steering assembley. It looks like the inner tie rod end is connected to the top of the wheel. Is there any thing special I have to do to get to the steering assemble,inner tie rod connection it looks like its hard to work on. Thanks Barry

The tie rod at the wheel is the outer tie rod the inner bushing is at the other end of that bar that attaches to the steering gear.Barely visable from under the hood.behind and below the back of the engine.the bushing has a large  bolt with lock tabs going through it.If they are bad they will be oblonged or pushing out.The rods are not easy to remove and then to replace the bushing you need the special tool that is listed in the tsb.You would need to take the whole bar off as an assembly.So then you may need the outer end as well.I'm thinking that you may be able to get the assembly from an aftermarket supplier.Sometimes it cheaper to have things done than to do them yourself.

The way I do it is hammer and screw driver to push the bottom one down and a pair of dykes to move the top one.Even though you count the turns the toe could still be off.Nothing burns tires quicker than misadjusted toe.Sorry about the other part,I thought you were looking at the wrong area.You still will have to disconnect the outer end to do the job.
