Chrysler Repair: 2001 Sebring PCM Replacement?, lock smith, scan tool

Question
I have a check engine code of 601 that my local repair shop says requires a new PCM.  Could someone else just reflash the PCM if they knew the procedure.  Would you advise to take the car to the dealer directly, or order a pre-programmed PCM on-line and take to a lock smith to have the keys re-trained?

Thanks

Answer
First off I don't know what code 601 is.All codes should begin with a p and have 4 numbers following.Secondly I've never known a locksmith being able to program a key or pcm.First you need the secret key code and then a scan tool to program it.Also when a pcm is replaced the vin needs to be programed and the abs module needs to be talked to.When you go to the dealer and have a pcm replaced, they download the program specific to your vehicle into a generic pcm.And while they are there they will program keys at the same time.A preprogramed pcm off the internet frankly just scares me.
