Chrysler Repair: chrysler sebring transmition, chrysler sebring, electrical plug

Question
My 1999 sebring with no warning stopped changing gears. At the the same time the speedo stopped as well. The trans goes into reverse fine ,there is no noise ,and the fluid is fine. What could be causing this?

Answer
Hi Jeff,
There is an 'output speed sensor' that not only operates the speedo it also is needed for the trans to change gears properly. It is located on the side of the trans that faces the front of the car, about midline, on the very far end of the trans (the driver's side of the car end). It has an electrical plug that you can lift the tab of to remove, and then unscrew the sensor and replace it with a new one. You might want to just buy one at a dealer so you are sure to know what you are looking for.
Let me know if that doesn't get you running again.
