Question
On several occassions I have found my doors unlocked and my trunk open. I have read where this is a symptom of a bad Body Control Module. Is this correct? Where is the unit located? Are there any tricks to getting to the unit?

Answer
Hi Jeff,
Yes the body control module does actuate the electrical door locks so that it could be giving a false signal to do so. It may be that some water (due to a windshield leak above it) has gotten into one or more of the three 25-pin plugs and caused shorting which results in these gremlins. So once you get to it I would try unplugging the plugs and cleaning the sockets and pins with electrical contact cleaner from a spray can. Then see if that ends the problem.
It is located on the right cowl, which is to the right and above the passenger's right lower leg. Here is how you get to it:
Remove the right end cap of the dash.
Remove the right cowl side trim panel and pull carpeting back, exposing the dash liner.
Cut dash liner along perforated lines and pull back the dash liner.
Remove screw through oblong acess hole at reght end of knee bolster.
Remove push-in fastener at lower leg of body control module from underneath instrument panel and maneuver module down and out, disconnect the three plug connectors to remove the module.
Then inspect the sockets and plugs for signs of corrosion, crud and water. Clean with contact cleaner in spray can from electronics supply store.
