Chrysler Repair: 98 Intrepid... Transaxle has way to much play, output shaft, postal mail

Question
any suggestions for repair work or any important info i should consider before attemping to replace transaxel bearing?

Answer
Hi Marc,
I don't have personal experience with rebuilding or even replacing bearings in the automatic transmission. I do have the '94 shop manual for the LH series cars and there is about 50 pages regarding disassembly and assembly of the 42LE trans. Whether it addresses your needs is unclear to me. But I would recommend that you have a detailed rebuild manual for that trans before attempting to replace a bearing on either output shaft which is the bearing I assume that you are dealing with. I can get pages copied for 5 cents each and with postage it might cost about $3.50 for me to copy and postal mail these pages to you. So let me know if you want me to do this copying, and provide a mailing address. You can reimburse me with a personal check or postage stamps after you get the pages. It appears that the bearing replacement will require removing the trans from the vehicle, but I can't be sure.
