Chrysler Repair: drain cock 93 dodge caravan, drain cock, radiator shop

How do you operate the drain cock? I;ve been told to pull it out to drain and theb to push it in to close. I've all so been to told to turn it counter clock wise to drain. I can't do either one. Should I use pliers?

I checked my '93 official shop manual and found that it didn't specify how the drain cock is to be opened. My Haynes manual shows a picture of a drain cock that is round and has a full-width tab molded into it. If yours looks like that I would believe it opens by counterclockwise rotation. I would use a small adjustable wrench to fit against the flats of the tab and gently rock the tab back and forth to see if there is any inclination to release and unwind counter clockwise.
Another approach would be to talk to a radiator shop, describe the cock, and ask if they can tell you the technique. Another way would be to go to a Chrysler dealer parts department and ask to look at a replacement cock and/or to look in their parts computer illustration for a hint. Examing the replacement cock should give you answer.
