Chrysler Repair: Installing stereo In 96 Plymouth Voyageur, voice coils, wire colors

Question
I removed the factory stereo that came in the vehicle. I cust the wires off the connector so that I could connect the new raido. However after matching up all the wires I have three left over and the 4 main speakers (2 in front doors and two in back) are not playing. I get sound from the 2 on the dashboard and the two tweeters in the back. Can you tell me what I need to do in order to have all the speakers playing as they did with the factoory stereo?

Answer

P.S. I suspect that you will want to group together the wires from the combined tweeter/woofer at each rear corner. putting their voice coils in parallel (and that will get 4 of the 8 working). And then group together the dash and door speakers on  each side thus getting the other four speakers going. Thus if you have four outputs on your new radio you would get the system going with all 8 voice coils. If this isn't clear let me know. You also need to pay attention to the polarity of the wires so that all the speakers move in the same direction so as not to cancel out the sound from oneanother. Do you have the wire colors/polarity assignments for each of the speakers so you can accomplish this?

Hi Gilbert,
I am not experienced in the audio systems but based on what little I do know it would seem that you are trying to install a new radio that is not provided with the same set of outputs as is required to "drive" the speakers in your van. It would appear to me from what you said that your van originally came with a Premium Chrysler sound system. That unit consists of a radio with four separate output to  a power amp which drives 8 speaker coils (in 6 separate speakers). When you removed the old system did you take out both the head unit and the power amp? If so that would explain why you are not powering all 8 voice coils. You will need to do some doubling up of the output wires from the new radio, combining some of the speaker wires so that two voice coils are powered by one of the output provisions of you new radio. But without having a detailed knowledge of what parts have been removed and what are the outputs that the new radio offers I would be reluctant to get into sorting this out. You might be better served to replace the factory radio with another one from a wrecking yard.
