Chrysler Repair: 1994 LHS transmission follow up, speed sensors, salvage yard

Question
Mr. Finston,
Well it prett much looks like there is an internal problem in the transmission. My mechanic tried the input and output speed sensors just in case they might stand a chance of fixing it but after about an hour of driving it went back into the same old problem. I've purchased a tech manual for the transmission and am contemplating a rebuild. Barring that it looks like a salvage yard transmission.
Thanks for the help.
Tracy

Hi,
I have a 1994 LHS which has about 114k miles on it. The transmission started kicking into neutral Friday night after a drive of approximately 45 miles. I checked the fluid level and found it to be low (1.5 quarts).
Well anyway after a few complete shutdowns I got the car into limp-in mode and managed to get it home. Much to my chagrin the hood relese cable had come out of the anchor under the hood and I had to get around that obstacle before I could check the transmission fluid. Well I filled the fluid up checking numerous times so as not to over fill it and drove it yesterday and today with no problems. Until that is just a few minutes ago when it went into limpback mode after I started it up from dropping off my kids. I slipped it into neutral then back into drive and it went back into limpback mode then it slipped into neutral and would not go into gear at all. I shut it down several times and after restart it would run through 1st gear but when it came time to go into second it would slip into neutral and nothing else would happen. Reverse works ok that's what i used to turn around  then I went to drive and nothing happened no forward movement again just like it was in neutral. I shut it down for the last time and restarted it when I put it into gear i put it in first and drove it home (About a mile and a half). I checked the fluid level upon returning home and it was normal. Thanks,
Trac

Answer
Hi Tracy,
Thanks for the update. Before you launch into a removal and rebuild/replacement, did you get a code readout of the trans controller memory? (I can't get access to the history of your problem at the site, so excuse me for asking again). But if you don't have a fault code readout, then verify that is where it is pointing you toward. Otherwise, it looks like a major project is ahead.
