Chrysler Repair: misfire, control circuitry, dodge caravan

Question
HAS misfire/ code 2-7 & 43. How would you trouble-shoot? Thank you. New plugs & wires are in.   1996 dodge caravan 3.8.

Answer
Hi George,
The codes 27 and 43 both could be the reason for the misfire. The 27 refers to the injector control circuitry and the 43 to the spark coil pack circuitry. I have the trouble shooting manual for the 93-4 3.8L V-6 engine and it should be applicable to your 96. It does assume that you have access to a diagnostic readout box (DRB II) but you can read between the lines as to what the tests are aimed toward and use a volt-ohmmeter instead. The tests are also based on knowing which of the injector or coil circuits are bad, and you can get that by having the engine controller readout with a readout box which gives the 4 digit code numbers rather than the simpler two digit codes you get via the ignition key. So the first thing to do is get a readout with a readout box so you focus on the specific specific injector/spark coil are involved. That my be something you can get done for free at Autozone or similar parts store. Then write back with the result and I'll xerox the trouble shooting pages for them and postal mail them to you. Include a postal mail address.
