Chrysler Repair: My 92 lebaron 3.0 4sp. auto..., chrysler dealer, mechanical issues

Question
My 92 lebaron 3.0 4sp. auto had a 93 trans installed at a junkyard. It shifts all 4 gears, but bangs hard into second. It seems to pull back and then shift really hard to second and then hits 3rd and 4th. Thanks for any help.

Answer
Hi Alex,
Harsh upshifts can be caused by either hydraulic or mechanical problems. Hydraulics can be repaired often without removing the trans by servicing the solenoid box, while mechanical issues with the clutches require removal. I would get a readout of the memory of the trans controller for any fault codes that will narrow down the cause considerably. Go to either a Chrysler dealer or a good independent non-franchise shop for the reading. Get the specific numbers, then write me again about what they are and what they recommend be done and at what cost. We'll compare what they say against what my manuals show.
When you write back, make it a new question, only this time please put in the "subject" area a description of the problem such as "harsh upshifts in 4-speed automatic" so that others who look at the archive will know what we are dealing with.
