Chrysler Repair: 1995 Dodge Spirit-Electrical Specs, current carrying capacity, plymouth voyager

Question
Hi Ron,

I need your help (again).  Back on April 23, 2005 you were a big help in tracking down a fusible link problem with our 1991 Plymouth Voyager.  Now we have another potential fusible link problem with a 1995 Dodge Spirit (3.0L V6).

We have tracked the problem down to the main wiring harness located on the left side of the engine compartment near the strut tower.

This is a large group of wires and we do not have any tech specs or color coding for this part of the car.

Would you have any reference material on the color coding and amp rating for this set of wires?

Thanks,

Teresa

Answer
Hi Theresa,
I have the '94 diagrams which are probably identical to how your '95 is wired. If you are referring to fusible links as the "large group of wires" I believe I have counted 9, but there are several with identical colors. The different colors represent different diameter of wires but as far as I can find no specific amp carrying ability of the individual colors except of course the greater the diameter the greater current carrying capacity. To identify a link you pretty much need to tell what color wires are attached to it at its ends, if there is more than one link with that color. The harness itself is not delineated except to show major off-branching to components and also the location of splices shown in the other wiring diagrams. But harness wiring contents are not shown in detail. So I am left to ask whether the wires of concern have shown symptoms that are identifiable which then could, via looking at the circuit for the impacted components give an indication of the fusible link that feeds that circuit? The first 8 pages of the diagrams typically include all the fusible links, and so if you need to look specifically at those I could xerox and mail those to you on Monday. Tell me more about your problem if that my be practical for you.
